Should you consider an electric van?
Oct 4, 2019
4 compelling reasons to go electric for your business.
Manufacturers are heavily investing in commercial electric vehicles and as the battery range improves, now is the time to switch to an electric van.
1. Why choose an electric van?
At present, electric vans are most suitable for companies that operate in urban areas, covermultiple stops, travel short distances and are equipped with telematics so the shortest route and least mileage will be highlighted. With battery ranges improving, most electric vans will be able to reach 100 miles before recharging.
2. Van choice is growing
The Nissan ENV200 has a 187-mile driving range without compromising on in its spacious cargo volume of 4.2m2. Volkswagen is releasing a Volkswagen E-Transporter later this year that can drive up to 250 miles. Mercedes-Benz is launching us the first E-Vito in late 2019 – it is expected to drive up to 93 miles before recharging is needed.
3. Reduce costs, access grants
Companies that are looking to reduce fleet operating costs, may want to consider an electric van, as under the current government Plug-in van grant scheme, companies purchasing / leasing an electric van can get up to £8,000 off the list price.
4. Congestion charge
With more councils introducing congestion charges to tackle pollution, electric vehicles are often exempt from this, if you are operating your business in and around central London you could save £12.50 per day, which over a year is a whopping £3262 per vehicle. Besides the savings, electric vans will also give you unrestricted access to ultra-low emission zones and areas with diesel bans.
Tony Poole, Managing Director at CVSL Electric Car Van leasing comments "We are seeing a huge increase in enquiries from companies who are looking to make the switch to electric vehicles as the mileage range has drastically improved over the last couple of years. With grants up for grabs, now is the time to get an electric van".
